Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Mount Holly NJ
136 AM EDT Sat May 10 2025
.SYNOPSIS...
Low pressure slowly pulls away tonight with high pressure
building in for Saturday. A weak cold front slides through on
Saturday night, with high pressure returning for the back half
of the weekend and start of next week. High pressure moves out
on Monday night, with an area of low pressure moving in for the
middle of next week.
&&
.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TODAY/...
Few changes to the near term forecast. Light showers and drizzle
linger near and north of the Pennsylvania Turnpike and eastward
into central New Jersey as they wrap around the departing low.
However, these will continue to slowly but surely pull off to
the northeast and out of the area early this morning though
clouds will linger longer and the breezy northwest wind will
continue through the night. Lows tonight will be in the 40s for
most, so a notable cool down compared to last night.
For Saturday, dry conditions are expected. The only issue will
be that winds increase during the day as mixing increases, with
gusts up to 35 mph possible by midday and afternoon. However,
it will be under a nearly cloudless blue sky as much drier air
moves in aloft. Highs mostly in the upper 60s to mid 70s,
except for low 60s in the Poconos.
&&
.SHORT TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT/...
A weak cold front slides through on Saturday night into Sunday
morning as low pressure lifts away towards the Canadian
Maritimes. The front will be moisture starved though and not
expecting any impacts. Lows on Saturday Night will be in the mid
to upper 40s/low 50s.
Once the front passes, high pressure slowly builds in from the
northwest, with a ridge aloft setting up over the region. This
will bring a nice set of days to close out the weekend and start
next week. Temperatures will be a few degrees above normal,
getting into the mid to upper 70s on both days. An upper level
low will be positioned to the southwest, which could bring some
cloud cover to areas south of Philadelphia, with more sunny
skies north of the city. Overnight lows end up in the mid to
upper 40s and low 50s.
Some showers begin to move in late Monday Night as the upper
level low slowly moves towards our region, but the bulk of the
precipitation comes more in the Tuesday Night to Wednesday
period.
&&
.LONG TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
The middle and late parts of next week look unsettled as a
closed low off to the southwest pushes towards our region and
weakens into an open trough. High pressure moves out to sea on
Monday Night, with an area of low pressure slowly nudging in
from the southwest. The surface low and associated trough will
be slow to move off the East Coast, resulting in periods of
showers and perhaps a few thunderstorms Tuesday through Friday.
Main periods where rainfall will be more widespread look to be
Tuesday Night through Wednesday as the low pressure approaches,
with more scattered light showers for the remainder of the week.
NBM Probability of 1 inch over a 24 hour period next week
hovers around 20-40%, with the higher values coming for the
Delmarva peninsula and South Jersey. This would actually be
beneficial since these areas did not get much rainfall over the
past few days, while areas north and west of I-95 got a
beneficial 1-2+ inches of rain. Still a lot of uncertainty
though as closed low setups are notoriously tricky to forecast,
but would expect at least some rainfall next week and not the
nicest May days.
Temperatures through the middle and end of next week look to be
near or above normal.
