National Weather Service Norman OK
156 AM CST Sun Nov 24 2024
...New NEAR TERM, SHORT TERM, LONG TERM...
.KEY MESSAGES...
Updated at 152 AM CST Sun Nov 24 2024
- Warm and windy today.
- Cold front arrives tonight with gusty north winds and colder
temperatures. Cold wind chills Monday morning.
- Another cold front arrives Wednesday with colder temperatures
for Thanksgiving.
&&
.NEAR TERM...
(Today and tonight)
Issued at 152 AM CST Sun Nov 24 2024
As surface low moves east across Kansas, strong veered low level
flow will result in the windy and warm conditions across Oklahoma
and north Texas today. Expect a warmer start to the day as higher
dewpoints continue to lift northward across the area this morning.
This, along with recent rains and unfavorable fuels, will keep
overall fire weather concerns low.
As the surface low continues to move east tonight, a strong cold
front will surge southward in its wake, bringing gusty north winds
and cooler temperatures back into the area. Wind chills will drop
into the lower 30s and mid/upper 20s across northwest half of
Oklahoma by sunrise Monday morning.
&&
.SHORT TERM...
(Monday through Tuesday night)
Issued at 152 AM CST Sun Nov 24 2024
Temperatures will be some 20-25 degrees cooler on Monday with a
brisk north wind through much of the day, even with clearing skies
and abundant sunshine by afternoon.
Colder surface high settles over the area Monday night, setting the
stage for another cool/cold night. Much of the area will either be
near or below freezing mark for Tuesday morning lows.
Highs shifts east with south winds returning Tuesday and
temperatures will rebound a few degrees from Monday`s highs, but
still below normal. Winds will increase quickly across the west
Tuesday afternoon as pressure falls occur across the high Plains in
advance of next storm system coming on shore across the Pacific
northwest.
&&
.LONG TERM...
(Wednesday through Saturday)
Issued at 152 AM CST Sun Nov 24 2024
Could see a broad range of temperatures on Wednesday as surface
boundary takes shape just north of the area and drops quickly south
during the day. South of this front, temperatures will respond to
the south winds will temperatures climbing into the 60s and 70s.
Further north temperatures may make it into the 50s before possibly
falling temperatures Wednesday afternoon.
Main upper wave still makes its way east across the southern Plains
Wednesday night and not completely out of the question to see some
light rain, however current forecast remains dry. Many areas will
not climb out of the 40s Thursday or Friday before a bit warmer day
expected Saturday. However, this looks to be short-lived as yet
another cold front sweeps south through the area Saturday. This
front may tap into more Canadian and possibly Arctic air and could
bring the coldest temperatures of the season to the southern Plains.

.AVIATION...
(06Z TAFS)
Issued at 1101 PM CST Sat Nov 23 2024
South winds will stay up overnight, but strong LLJ will create
LLWS at most sites. Winds will become quite gusty Sunday morning
with some high clouds through the day. Could see a period of MVFR
ceilings at DUA Sunday morning. A front will enter northern
Oklahoma Sunday evening with winds shifting to the north behind
this boundary.
