.SHORT TERM...
(Today through Saturday afternoon)
Issued at 243 AM CDT Fri Apr 11 2025
Not a whole lot to talk about in the short-term forecast period.
Current satellite imagery and latest RAP analysis show a mid-level
ridge settling in across the Rockies extending down to the Desert
Southwest. The ridge is expected to move east and settle near
southeastern New Mexico and west Texas by Friday night into Saturday
morning. Being in the entrance region of the ridge, northwesterly
flow aloft shall continue through today and tomorrow providing
downsloping effects causing warmer temperatures regionwide. Dry and
mostly clear sky conditions are in store today with high
temperatures forecasted to be generally in the mid to upper 80s.
Some areas along the Trans Pecos reaching the lower 90s, while areas
along the Rio Grande look to hit the lower triple digits today which
will be a precursor heading into the weekend. Winds are also
expected to be breezy over much of the area, thanks to being wedged
between a surface high off to the east and lower pressure to the
southwest. Tomorrow night, temperatures stay quite warm for this
time of year with lows anticipated to be in the 50s to mid 60s
areawide.
Geopotential heights and thicknesses increase as the mid-level ridge
approaches overhead tomorrow, supplying warmer temperatures and
continued dry conditions across the forecast area. Temperatures are
expected to span in the 90s over much of the region with some
locations along the Trans Pecos, Rio Grande, and Presidio valleys in
the lower 100s. This will place these high temperatures 15-20
degrees above normal for this time of year. The warming trend
carries on heading into Sunday.

.LONG TERM...
(Saturday night through Thursday)
Issued at 243 AM CDT Fri Apr 11 2025
Next week starts off on a hot note as mid level ridging remains
overhead. Low level thermal ridging sets up directly over the
region Sunday with 850 mb temps pushing 29C. Deep southwesterly
downslope flow and efficient mixing will send temperatures soaring
into the mid to upper 90s for everyone outside of the higher
terrain. Several locations could approach 100 degrees, especially
in the warm-favored river valleys. One caveat will be increasing
high clouds moving in from the west late in the day. This could
keep us from reaching record highs if they arrive during peak
heating. Nonetheless, it will be a hot one with most locations
seeing levels of heat we more typically see in mid summer. Take
your heat precautions and make sure to take breaks and drink
plenty of water this weekend.
Luckily, the heat won`t last as a cold front arrives Sunday night.
Gusty northeast winds will bring temperatures down closer to normal
Monday and Tuesday. High pressure moves off to the east midweek
allowing a return to warmer conditions. The extended remains dry
helping to escalate fire danger once again, especially on days
with temperatures well above normal.
