.KEY MESSAGES...

* Gusty winds diminish this evening.

* Highs Thursday and Friday may reach the low 80s across western
NV valleys and approach record levels.

* The next weather system moves into the west coast Friday and
Saturday with the return of gusty winds and cooler temperatures.

.DISCUSSION...

Gusty winds will decline this evening as the jet stream retreats
northward into the Pacific Northwest allowing high pressure to
build over the Great Basin through Thursday.

With high pressure overhead, afternoon highs peak on Thursday and
Friday with 65-75 in the Sierra, and 75-85 for the NV valleys. Records
highs for this week are in the low 80s across western NV. At RNO
record high is 83 for Thursday (1989) and Friday (1988).

The next weather system moves into the west coast Friday and
Saturday. Simulations are favoring a track into the Pacific
Northwest which yields a less warm but breezy Friday and Saturday
for the Sierra and western NV. A few simulations produce light
showers (10-20% chance) over northeast CA and northern Washoe
County late Friday and early Saturday, liquid amounts are minor
and less than 0.10 inch. Brong

.AVIATION...

Gusty surface winds and LLWS will diminish this evening, but mountain
wave turbulence over the Sierra persists into Tuesday morning.

High pressure returns Tuesday with light winds and warm, dry
conditions into Friday. Afternoon temperatures may approach
records levels Thursday and Friday for western NV valleys with
unusually high density altitudes for early April. Brong
