.DISCUSSION...
(This evening through Thursday)
Issued at 1231 PM PDT Wed May 21 2025
WEATHER PATTERN OVERVIEW: A mainly flat ridge will give way to a
weak shortwave in the upper level flow tonight into Thursday. This
feature will quickly move through the northern Great Basin. Storms
are not expected in the area. Most areas will see partly to
mostly sunny skies. Winds will be breezy to locally windy with
speeds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 35 mph. Look for dry
conditions during the overnight with mostly clear conditions.
Highs will be in the 70s and 80s with lows in the 40s and 50s.
Look for a stronger shortwave to move through the forecast area
Friday, bringing a fifteen to twenty percent chance for showers
and thunderstorms in northeast Nevada/Elko county Friday
afternoon. Not much in the way of rain is expected with this
feature, at or less than five hundredths of an inch. A ten to
fifteen percent probability of a shower can be expected in eastern
Nevada Friday night. Highs will again be in the 70s and 80s with
lows in the 40s and 50s.
Sunday through Wednesday, look for dry conditions through the
latter half of the weekend with quiet conditions continuing into
Monday. By Tuesday and Wednesday, a shortwave feature will try to
push into the western United States, bringing isolated showers and
thunderstorms to portions of the forecast area. Highs will be
above normal during this time with readings in the 80s for highs
and lows in the 40s and 50s.
FORECAST CONFIDENCE & DEVIATIONS: NBM forecast has been trending
well in the location of features in the mid to upper levels and
with temperatures. No appreciable changes were made to the
forecast.
