.KEY MESSAGES...

* Strong winds will continue to create impacts to travel and
recreation today before winds diminish through the evening.

* Much cooler conditions with areas of mountain snow and valley
rain showers are expected through Tuesday.

* A warming and drying trend returns mid-week before another low
pressure system provides more chances for showers this weekend.

.DISCUSSION...

Strong and gusty winds continue across the E.Sierra and W.Nevada
today which will continue to impact travel and recreation. While
most areas will see wind gusts in the 40-50 mph range, wind prone
areas along US-395/I-580 will see localized gusts of 60-70 mph due
to downslope enhancement. Areas of blowing dust are ongoing
across desert sinks across the W.NV Basin and Range.

The core of an upper low will then continue to push across
northern Nevada and California providing much cooler conditions
along with chances for rain and mountain showers. Showers will
mainly be confined the E.Sierra northward of US-50 into Lassen
and northern Washoe County through this evening before becoming
more widespread on Tuesday. Snow levels will fall to near 6000
feet this afternoon before dipping to their lowest point at around
5000 feet Tuesday morning.

Liquid precipitation amounts will be on the light side, less than
0.50 inch with snowfall accumulations limited to mainly slushy
conditions on Sierra passes. A few thunderstorms are possible
(15-25% chance) Tuesday afternoon with the best chances expected
along the Sierra.

Much cooler weather will be in place through Tuesday with highs
dipping 10-15 degrees below season averages with highs around 60
degrees for W.Nevada and upper 40s for Sierra communities.
Conditions will warm and dry starting mid-week with highs
returning to seasonable values by Thursday. However, we are once
again looking at another low pressure system targeting the weekend
timeframe which could provide a 20-40% chance of showers on
Saturday with a 10-15% shot of an isolated thunderstorm. Fuentes

&&

.AVIATION...

Mountain wave turbulence and LLWS continues to impact all W.Nevada
and E.Sierra terminals with surface gusts up to 45kts with up to
60kts possible at KMMH where additional downslope enhancement
remains possible. Surface gusts and LLWS potential should decrease
rapidly after 00z as the upper level jet tracks southward.

Showers will continue to track across the E.Sierra mainly north of
US-50 into western Lassen County through this evening. Areas of
IFR/MVFR in precipitation and mountain obscurations likely into
KSVE/KTRK/KTVL. Snow may mix in at times as low as 5000-5500 ft
msl tonight-Tuesday AM, but accumulations remain unlikely on paved
surfaces. Showers and a 15-25% chance of thunderstorms for all
E.Sierra and W.Nevada terminals on Tuesday. Fuentes
