Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Goodland KS
530 AM MDT Sat Jun 7 2025
.KEY MESSAGES...
- Patchy fog may develop over the area early this morning. Fog,
if and where it develops, will lift and dissipate within an
hour or two after sunrise. Locally dense fog, while possible,
is less likely than yesterday morning.
- A modest cold front will progress southward through the Tri-
State area Sunday morning, stalling over southern Kansas (near
the Oklahoma border) during the afternoon. Thunderstorms are
anticipated to develop along/near the stalled front Sunday
afternoon and evening. At present, guidance suggests that
thunderstorms (and any severe weather potential) will be
confined south and west of the NWS Goodland county warning
area.

.SHORT TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
Issued at 130 AM MDT Sat Jun 7 2025
Today-Tonight: Patchy fog may develop over the area early this
morning. Fog, if and where it develops, will lift and dissipate
within an hour or two after sunrise. Locally dense fog, while
possible, is less likely than yesterday morning. Thereafter..
mostly clear skies and benign weather will prevail. Light and
variable or light westerly winds will veer to the WNW and
modestly increase to 15-25 mph this afternoon.. as diurnal
heating fosters modest vertical mixing. Forecast soundings
suggests that somewhat breezier (20-30 mph) NW winds may develop
over a limited portion of northeast Colorado.. mainly in Yuma
County. Winds will weaken and become light/variable around or
shortly before sunset.. as a developing nocturnal inversion
terminates vertical mixing.

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
Issued at 1258 PM MDT Fri Jun 6 2025
Sunday: A modest cold front will progress southward through the
Tri-State area Sunday morning, stalling over southern Kansas
(near the Oklahoma border) during the afternoon. Thunderstorms
are anticipated to develop along/near the stalled front Sunday
afternoon and evening. At present, guidance suggests that
thunderstorms (and any severe weather potential) will be
confined south and west of the NWS Goodland county warning area.
Monday and Tuesday, northwest flow returns to the region as the
western CONUS ridge reamplifies. Being on the eastern periphery
of this ridge may lead to some subtle disturbances which may
lead some storm potential but at this range those exact details
are not being sampled well.
Mid week continue to see some indications of troughing returning
suggesting a continued active patter continues for the Tri-State
area. Guidance is now suggesting that high pressure develops across
the SE CONUS which is typically a signal that moist to very
moist air returns to the area. With this pattern the continued
wet and active pattern looks to continue.
A gradual warming trend looks to continue and peaking mid week as
high temperatures in the mid 80s to low 90s. If the moisture does
increase like what guidance is suggesting with the surface high
across the southeast then temperatures may be a little to high
and would need to be lowered as it is more difficult to warm up
with higher dew points in place.

.AVIATION /12Z TAFS THROUGH 12Z SUNDAY/...
Issued at 525 AM MDT Sat Jun 7 2025
Fog will continue to clear at the terminals over the next few
hours. After fog clears, VFR conditions will prevail throughout
the effective TAF period. Gusty west winds are anticipated this
morning at KGLD, with gusts picking up in the afternoon at KMCK
as well. During the overnight hours, as a cold front tracks
south across the region, winds will shift to northerly winds and
remain gusty.
