...AVIATION UPDATE...

.KEY MESSAGES...

- Showers and thunderstorms will expand in coverage and track
east across the area this morning, impacting mainly south
central Nebraska, with dry conditions and mostly sunny skies
expected for this afternoon. Severe weather is not
  anticipated.

- After a mostly sunny afternoon with high temperatures peaking
near 80, a cold front will bring cooler temperatures (low to
mid 70s) along with a few showers and possibly a non severe
thunderstorm to parts of the area Sunday. Much of the area
(especially south of I-80) will likely remain dry as this
  front passes by.

- Near normal temperatures (upper 70s/low 80s) are expected to
start the week (Monday), with above normal temperatures (80s
to near 90) expected each afternoon the remainder of next
week. Wednesday continues to look like the warmest day of the
  work week.

.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 301 AM CDT Sat Jun 7 2025

Showers and a few thunderstorms have increased in coverage
across the local area this morning as an upper level disturbance
pushes east towards the local area this morning. This activity
should rapidly push east by late morning, with a partly
cloudy/mostly sunny afternoon in store for the area. High
temperatures this afternoon will likely top out around 80
degrees. Given marginal instability/shear this morning and very
isolated lightning activity thus far, severe weather is not
anticipated with any thunderstorms that do develop.

A cold front will move across the local area late tonight,
bringing increased cloud cover along with a few showers/an
isolated thunderstorm Sunday morning. Most models focus shower
activity north of Interstate 80 Sunday morning, and trimmed
pops across the area to reflect this. Temperatures Sunday
afternoon will be a few degrees cooler than this afternoon,
generally in the lower to mid 70s.

Behind the cold front Sunday, high pressure will begin to build
across the upper levels of the atmosphere, bringing warmer and
dry weather to start the work week. Temperatures will likely
then peak on Wednesday as the upper ridge moves east, in
response to the next disturbance moving across the area from the
west. This will bring the return for additional shower and
thunderstorm activity Wednesday through Friday as multiple weak
disturbances in west southwesterly flow aloft move across the
area. Given the increased instability over this time period,
severe weather cannot be ruled out at this time.

Late in the forecast period, high pressure from the southwest
will lift across the center of the country and intensify,
likely bringing a return to dry weather over the weekend along
with rising temperatures, likely climbing well above normal to
start the following week. Currently, much of the local area is
highlighted in at least a slight risk for hazardous temperatures
(Heat Index values over 100) for the period of June 14-18 from
the climate prediction center.

.AVIATION /12Z TAFS THROUGH 12Z SUNDAY/...
Issued at 619 AM CDT Sat Jun 7 2025

For KGRI/KEAR Airports:

Scattered -SHRAs and -TSRAs are moving across the area this
morning associated with a passing upper level shortwave. Near
MVFR CIGS and MVFR VSBYS (BR) are being observed and forecast to
continue for a couple more hours. This activity should rapidly
diminish by 07/15-07/16Z...with skies clearing behind the
passing disturbance and prevailing VFR conditions for the
remainder of the period. Winds will be mainly northwesterly at
8 KTS or less today...becoming variable this evening ahead of a
cold front which should cross the terminals towards the tail end
of the period bringing NNW winds up to 12 KTS aft 08/09Z along
with increasing mid/high clouds. Held off on any precip chances
towards the tail end of the period (with the cold front) as
confidence is not high and both sites will likely be on the
southern fringe of precip chances.
