.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 230 AM CST Sun Nov 24 2024
Patchy fog has developed over southwestern parts of the
forecast area. This is currently most prevalent in low-lying
areas, although this is expected to expand into Sunday morning.
The 00Z HREF shows a 60-80% chance for visibility to dip below 1
mile at least briefly this morning. Increasing northerly winds
behind the cold front then this fog out of the area by around
10am.
Today`s forecast temperature has trended cooler due to
additional cloud cover and cold air advection behind the cold
front. The northern half of the area will likely remain in the
40s, and far northern zones may even struggle to break out of
the 30s. A few flurries become possible late this evening as an
upper shortwave moves into the area, but limited low-level
moisture should prevent any snow accumulation.
Skies clear out on Monday, but temperatures will still struggle
to reach 40 degrees in the colder post-frontal airmass. Tuesday
trends slightly warmer (near-normal highs in the mid 40s to near
50) as southerly winds return.
The next system is still on-track to bring some light
precipitation (mainly snow...possibly a little rain depending on
low-level temperatures) starting on Wednesday. There will
continue to be run-to-run variability, but global ensembles
currently indicate only a 10-30% chance for 1" or more through
Wednesday night.
Thanksgiving Day could have some lingering flurries or light
snow, but is overall trending drier. Continued northwest flow at
the surface and aloft will keep the cold airmass in-place
through the holiday weekend. Ensembles hint at possibly some
more light snow next Sunday/Monday (Dec 1-2), but this is
unlikely to be anything significant. Temperatures are also
expected to "bottom out" during this timeframe, with ensembles
favoring a slight warming trend beyond that.
