.DISCUSSION...

KEY MESSAGES:

* A cold north wind and rain showers changing over to snow showers
will be the immediate impactful weather today through early
  Thursday.

* Slow changes in the flow pattern will lead to colder than normal
temperatures through the rest of this week.

WEATHER PATTERN OVERVIEW:

After the sudden gusty winds this morning with the cold frontal
passage, we experienced a lull in wind speed through the middle
of today. Now the re-enforcing push of cold air behind the front
has increased the wind speeds again this afternoon. Widespread 15
to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph will verify the Lake Wind
Advisory now in effect until 10 PM tonight. Temperatures further
west are already cold enough to keep this early push of
precipitation as snow. For our CWA, temperatures are still warm
enough for rain which has already made its way into Phillips and
Valley Counties from the west.

Best model consensus shows this northern section of rain giving
way to increased rain showers for our western and southern zones
later this afternoon through the overnight hours tonight. Change
over to snow after midnight is possible with some light
accumulation for the southern portions of our southern zones with
minimal impact.

This cold Canadian low pressure trough will be slow moving through
our region. As a result, expect hit or miss rain/snow showers and
below normal temperatures through the rest of this week.

The next approaching warm ridge of high pressure will arrive later
this weekend.

FORECAST CONFIDENCE & DEVIATIONS:

For today, chose to increase forecast wind speeds as models have
20-30 knot 850 mb winds and good mixing is expected. Made some
significant adjustments to PoPs today to provide hour to hour
consistency.

High confidence on the cooler temperatures today with north winds
strong enough for a Lake Wind Advisory. Average confidence on
forecasted precipitation chances.

.AVIATION...

LAST UPDATED: 2045Z, Wednesday afternoon, April 16th.

FLIGHT CAT RANGE: Mainly VFR, with brief MVFR possible.

DISCUSSION: A cold Canadian trough will direct north winds and
rain showers changing over to snow showers through this TAF cycle.
Expect cooler and unsettled conditions through the rest of this
work week.

WINDS: This afternoon and evening, from the north at 15 to 20 kts
with gusts up to 30 kts. Overnight tonight from the north or
northwest around 10 to 12 kts. Thursday mid-day through afternoon,
from the northwest and north around 15 to 20 kts.

&&

.GGW WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
Lake Wind Advisory until 10 PM MDT this evening for Central and
Southeast Phillips-Central and Southern Valley-Garfield-McCone-
Petroleum.
