Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Springfield MO
258 AM CDT Sun May 4 2025
.KEY MESSAGES...
- Cooler temperatures will occur again today and tonight with
highs in the 60s and lows in the 40s.
- Additional shower and thunderstorm chances (30-75%) return to
the area Tuesday into Thursday night.
&&
.SHORT TERM /THROUGH MONDAY/...
Issued at 140 AM CDT Sun May 4 2025
A cut off upper level low remained over the Ohio Valley region
overnight and is expected to remain there into the beginning of
the coming work week. Thanks to the northerly flow on the
western side of the low, cool air was continuing to slide into
the Ozarks. Morning lows in the 40s will occur as a result
today. Afternoon temperatures will only climb into the middle
despite nearly full sunshine.
Little change is expected tonight into Monday as the upper low
moves slowly to the northeast. Morning lows will again be in
the 40s with highs Monday in the upper 60s to around 70s west of
Hwy 65, and the mid to upper 60s east of Hwy 65.
&&
.LONG TERM /MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY/...
Issued at 140 AM CDT Sun May 4 2025
The next weather maker for the region will come in the form of
an upper level low that pushes across the plains from the west
during the middle of the week. This system will bring the next
chances for rain to the region for the middle of the week.
There are still some differences in the ensembles, but overall,
model indications bring a decent chance for rain and
thunderstorm chances (30-75%) for Tuesday afternoon through
Thursday night. At this time, there does not appear to be any
potential for severe weather as instability and shear look to be
limited.
Afternoon highs will generally warm into the 70s through the
coming week, however additional rainfall and cloud cover could
keep temperatures in the 60s.
Next weekend looks generally dry as high pressure moves over the
area, however, some subtle shortwaves may be enough to produce
scattered showers. Models only hint a rain though at this time.
&&
.AVIATION /06Z TAFS THROUGH 06Z MONDAY/...
Issued at 1218 AM CDT Sun May 4 2025
Clear skies across the region are expected to prevail through
the next 24 hours with VFR conditions. Surface winds will be
generally light and variable.
