.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 425 AM CDT Thu Apr 17 2025

Today and Tonight: Continued dry and warmer through the period.
Early morning surface analysis had a >1024mb high over the Ohio
river valley and a <1000mb low over the central Plains. The surface
high will continue tracking east through tonight but also continue
to ridge back across the Gulf coast states. The surface low will
track northeast through tonight but a second <1000mb low will drop
over the southern Plains. The pressure gradient between the surface
lows and the surface ridging to our east will result in a gusty
south wind today that will continue to gradually increase low level
moisture back across our region. Early morning satellite imagery/RAP
analysis showed a mid level ridge just west of our CWA that is
progged to strengthen and shift east over our CWA. This ridging
surface and aloft combined with the gusty southerly wind should help
temperatures top out warmer than normal and in the 80s. Tonight the
gusts will subside but the pressure gradient will keep the south
wind up through the night. This will help temperatures bottom out
warmer than normal as well and from the upper 50s east to the mid
60s west. /22/

Friday through Next Thursday

The period will begin with a upper-level ridging across the
southeastern states. Conditions will remain dry as the main focus
for the beginning of the period will be the potential for 90
degree temps for some spots across the area as well as some gusty
gradient winds.

Come Saturday southwesterly flow aloft will allow for ample
moisture recovery. Cloud cover will increase ahead of the
approaching frontal boundary to our northwest. The boundary will
stall and linger to our northwest as we remain under the influence
of the upper-level ridging. Its not until an upper-level
troughing across the high plains swings east Sunday that the front
begins to move southward into our area. Thus the chances for
showers and thunderstorms will increase Sunday into Monday with
the possibility that some storms may be strong to severe. We will
maintain the "slight" risk for severe weather in the HWO, however
uncertainty remains as model timing and evolution of the system
has variation. With a weak environment, the timing will be
crucial for this systems severe potential. Transitioning into
next week, the forecast is very uncertain as model consensus
breaks down even further, but it looks to be a wetter period with
low prob rain chances throughout (20- 30%). With that said
Wednesday night into Thursday will be an area of interest for
increased storm potential. /KP/
