Area Forecast Discussion...UPDATED
National Weather Service Jackson MS
1120 PM CST Thu Feb 6 2025
...New AVIATION...
.MESOSCALE UPDATE...
Issued at 848 PM CST Thu Feb 6 2025
Mainly quiet conditions prevail this evening, with just scattered
mid clouds. A cold front is currently sinking southward across
north MS and central AR, but it will stall across the northern
part of the area over the next several hours. Isolated to
scattered light showers cannot be ruled out near the front, but
most areas will remain dry. Areas north of the front may see temps
dip into the 50s tomorrow morning, but most of us will remain in
a warmer, more humid regime of low clouds and at times fog. There
is potential again tonight for dense fog, mainly south of I-20
across south MS and central LA. A limited threat dense fog hazard
outlook graphic has been added to highlight this potential, and
we will be monitoring overnight for a potential dense fog
advisory, should any fog become widespread. Overall, no major
changes were required for the near term forecast. /DL/

.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 247 PM CST Thu Feb 6 2025
Tonight through Saturday night: An anomalously strong mid level
ridge will continue support a persistent southerly flow pattern as
we go through the remainder of the week and into the weekend.
Additional record high temperatures and potentially warm low
records are expected. The primary concern in the near term will be
dense fog potential over southern portions of the area as we go
from late tonight into early Friday morning. HREF/HRRR guidance
show probs for this, but will continue to monitor for now given we
will be on the northern fringe of the most favorable area. It is
possible that we will need to issue a dense fog advisory at some
point this evening.
Sunday through next Wednesday night: A very wet weather pattern
is expected to develop as a polar frontal boundary pushes
southward and stalls over our region with deep southwest flow
aloft. Anomalously moist air will be drawn poleward as a series of
perturbations move along the front and initiate periods of
moderate to locally heavy rainfall. Temperatures will vary along
the boundary, but they shouldn`t be extreme, so expect them to be
mild on average with the potential for colder temperatures limited
to upper portions of the Delta region into north central MS. We
currently do not have any hazards messaged, for flooding nor
severe weather, but we`ll monitor this as we go through the next
few days when details become clearer, and when we can gauge better
how significant the warm sector will be for any individual
frontal waves. /EC/

(06Z TAFS)
Issued at 1118 PM CST Thu Feb 6 2025
Another round of low stratus and/or fog is developing tonight
through Friday morning, with ceilings in many areas falling to
IFR/LIFR & vsby along & south of I-20 potentially falling to
IFR/LIFR, with VLIFR vsby/dense fog psbl in central to southern
TAF sites of HBG, PIB & HEZ & psbl at JAN & HKS. Slow improvement
is expected through Friday morning, with most areas returning to
VFR by mid-afternoon. In addition, isolated to scattered light
SHRA will be possible mainly in north MS & AR as a cold front
remains in the area. /DL/DC/
