.UPDATE...
Issued at 1001 AM CDT Fri Apr 11 2025

Skies are mostly sunny across the Mid-South this morning with
temperatures in the mid 50s to mid 60s. Clouds will start to
increase ahead of an upper level trough which will drop into the
region from the north. This upper level trough may also produce a
few light rain showers this afternoon east of the Mississippi
River. An isolated thunderstorm is also possible.

.DISCUSSION...
(Today through Thursday)
Issued at 310 AM CDT Fri Apr 11 2025

Cooler conditions return to the Midsouth today behind a cold front
that resulted in showers and thunderstorms across the Missouri
Bootheel, west Tennessee and north Mississippi yesterday. Afternoon
highs should be in the 60s. A few afternoon showers and isolated
thunderstorms are possible in northeast Mississippi and West
Tennessee, near the Tennessee River today. Strong or severe
thunderstorms are not expected. These showers will be triggered by
a positively tilted shortwave trough rounding the backside of a
deep longwave trough extending from Lake Ontario to the Central
Gulf Coast.

The shortwave should reach the base of the longwave by sunset
bringing the end to any chance of rain across the Midsouth as the
longwave trough shifts toward the East Coast. High pressure will
build in from the west tonight. Clear skies, light wind and a
fairly dry atmosphere could result in patchy frost tonight in
portions of northwest Tennessee.

Saturday through Monday look dry and mild, featuring mostly clear
skies and warming temperatures. Expect highs in the 60s Saturday
and 70s to low 80s Sunday and Monday.

A broad ridge over the Mississippi River Valley this weekend will
flatten out early next week. A cold front may result in another
chance of showers and thunderstorms Monday night, but return flow
ahead of the front looks limited, so widespread coverage is not
expected. Dry and cooler conditions are expected Tuesday through
Thursday.

.AVIATION...
(12Z TAFS)
Issued at 706 AM CDT Fri Apr 11 2025

VFR conditions are expected to prevail for the most part, with the
exception of a brief reduction to MVFR CIGs at MKL later this
morning. A few wraparound showers will be making their way across
the airspace around 18Z, but confidence and coverage was too low
to have any prevailing precip in the TAFs, just VCSH and PROB30s.
Gusty northwest winds this afternoon will transition to light
northeasterly winds by sunset.
