.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 343 PM EDT Thu Jun 19 2025

- The Heat is On

The main story of the 7 day forecast is certainly the heat. Normal
highs this time of year are around 80 with normal lows around 60.
We will see highs and lows 10+ degrees above normal much of the
next week. The warmest period will be from Saturday through
Monday. 850mb temperatures soar to +21 to +24 degrees C which
normally pushes high temperatures into the 90s and this event
looks to do just that. Really we are looking at a 4 day stretch
from Saturday through Tuesday where highs will be at least around
90. Overnight low temperatures will be above 70 so there will be
little relief overnight for those without air conditioning. The
area of most concern is the southern half of our forecast area
from Muskegon to Alma and points southward on Saturday, Sunday and
Monday when heat index values will be around 100. We are most
likely looking at the need for Heat Advisories as we go forward
into the weekend and early next week. Even though we cool just a
bit into the mid week, we are still looking at warm above normal
temperatures Tuesday through next Thursday. Highs during that
period will "cool" from the lower 90s to the middle to upper 80s.
Bottom line, the heat is on and those wanting hot summer
temperatures...they have arrived! This is the time to begin
messaging heat safety tips.

- Periodic Storm Chances through Saturday morning

We have chances for some showers and thunderstorms beginning this
evening as some activity tries to work across Central Lake
Michigan. These storms will have to survive a lake trip where this
time of year the storms will ingest the cooler more stable air.
For this reason we only have isolated/20 pct chances for
precipitation up near Big and Little Sable Points.

Both late tonight/Friday morning and again late Friday
night/Saturday morning we have chances for ridge riding shower and
thunderstorm activity. The convection will be associated with a
warm front nearby stretched out from northwest to southeast on
the edge of the heat dome. Both periods the nocturnal low level
jet veers and bends into our area. We have chance pops tonight
around 30-40 pct up towards Ludington with much higher pops
Saturday morning (60 pct) across Central Lower.

- Additional Shower and Thunderstorm Chances Next Week

As we head into the middle of next week, Tuesday through Thursday,
we should see an increase in shower and thunderstorm chances once
again as the strong ridge over the weekend is flattened some into
more of a zonal flow. A boundary will hang up over Lower Michigan
due to it becoming parallel with the upper flow resulting in
shower and thunderstorm chances.

.AVIATION /00Z TAFS THROUGH 00Z FRIDAY/...
Issued at 743 PM EDT Thu Jun 19 2025

A line of showers and storms moved across the Lake. As they moved inland
however, the storms weakened. Any other storm development has been
east of TAF sites. For any lingering precip have put VCSH for MKG
and GRR. Otherwise, expecting a primarily dry forecast.
While the chance remains low, some models are bringing in some
low level moisture overnight especially on the lakeshore. That
would primarily mean MVFR vsbys. If that were to occur it would
only affect MKG between 09Z to 13Z. However, since there is a low
chance have left any mentions of reducing vsbys out of the TAF.

&&

.MARINE...
Issued at 343 PM EDT Thu Jun 19 2025

Winds and waves have calmed as the system has moved to the east.
Overall winds and waves will remain calm through tomorrow. Southerly
flow will build tomorrow evening. That strong flow should allow for
winds and waves to become hazardous to small craft. Waves could
potentially continue to build, especially Grand Haven northward,
through Saturday. Waves hazardous to small craft and beach goers
could potentially continue through the weekend.
