Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Lake Charles LA
259 PM CDT Fri Apr 11 2025

...New SHORT TERM, LONG TERM, MARINE...

.KEY MESSAGES...

- The front will reinforce the dry air mass in place with cool
  nights and mild days into the beginning of the weekend.

- Southerly winds and a ridge aloft look to bring warmer and more
  humid conditions early next week.

&&

.SHORT TERM...
(Tonight through Sunday night)
Issued at 232 PM CDT Fri Apr 11 2025

It is a fantastic Friday with the weather to match! A cold front
moved over the area this morning and is now slowing as it descends
further south over the nearshore Gulf waters. A surface high
pressure over the Midwestern to Central Plains States is building
south, ushering in a drier and cooler airmass. This will keep near
seasonable conditions today and tomorrow. Aloft, a ridge over the
western CONUS will build and the surface high will move off to the
east. This will allow for southerly winds and a reintroduction of
moisture. Temps and dewpoints to climb from Sunday.

&&

.LONG TERM...
(Monday through next Thursday)
Issued at 232 PM CDT Fri Apr 11 2025

The modest warming trend will continue into Monday, with MaxTs in
the lower to mid 80s and MinTs in the 60s. Upper ridging will
flatten as a trough trekking along the US/CA line squishes it down.
A weak and dry cold front will be pushed into the region Tuesday.
Unfortunately the cooler and drier air will be short lived as the
surface high exits stage east out of the area. Southerly flow and
moisture will return, along with warmer temps to end out the long
term.

&&

.AVIATION...
(18Z TAFS)
Issued at 1221 PM CDT Fri Apr 11 2025

A cold front has moved through the area and is now over the gulf
waters. Northerly winds, some elevated and gusty, will prevail
into the late afternoon to evening hours. Winds to taper and shift
more easterly near the end of the period.

&&

.MARINE...
Issued at 232 PM CDT Fri Apr 11 2025

A cold front will continue to move further south into the Gulf
waters before weakening. The modest northerly flow will continue
into early Saturday, before high pressure moves off to the east of
the coastal waters, and a light to modest southerly flow will
develop. These southerly winds, along with mainly low seas, will
persist into early next week.
