.SHORT TERM /THROUGH SATURDAY/...
Issued at 1213 PM CDT Fri May 2 2025
Wave moves into the Great Lakes Region this evening, cutting
off near Lake Michigan tonight. This cutoff low will be the
feature to watch through the weekend, as it will bring gloomy
weather for some. As this moves in tonight, we will be socked in
clouds, moderating temperatures in the mid 40s for most, with
light winds. While we are not expecting severe weather, bouts of
energy will continue to gyrate around the low, bringing periods
of showers and isolated storms. Best chances will be along and
east of the Mississippi River for showers. Overall, accumulation
amounts will be between 0.25-0.50" along and east of the
Mississippi River, with those west of the river seeing 0.25" or
less. Much of this accumulation will also fall through tonight,
leaving us with isolated-scattered showers/storms (20-40%
chance, with <20% west of the river) circling the low tomorrow.
Overall, at this time it would seem there will be more dry time
than wet tomorrow. Otherwise, we will see passing clouds
continuing for most through the weekend. Areas west of the river
will have the best chance to see breaks in the clouds later in
the day Saturday, but won`t be enough to heat up the area much.
Most of the area will hover around 60, with a northeasterly
breeze.

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY/...
Issued at 312 AM CDT Fri May 2 2025
The stacked upper low will continue to slowly wobble across southern
IN and KY on Sunday. Clouds will continue to wrap cyclonically
around the low, with thicker clouds as you move south and east. The
various 12Z global and CAM models and ensemble guidance continue to
show the highest precip chances /20-40%/ in the IL counties
from late Sunday afternoon into evening, although QPF should
remain light < 0.10". The warmest temps on Sunday, upper 60s, will
be in the far west where at least partial sunshine is expected,
with cooler highs in the upper 50s to around 60 far east.
By early next week, another upper trough/low is expected to eject
across the 4-corners region which will eventually kick the stubborn
closed low off of the northeast. A few light showers may linger in
the far east on Monday, before drier air moves in from west.
Generally dry and seasonal conditions are expected midweek as a
broad area of high pressure develops from the Great Lakes swd into
the Upper Mississippi Valley. Highs should rebound into the low
to mid 70s, near or slightly above seasonal averages. The
various ensemble solutions show low confidence in shower/tstm
activity mid/late week, kept some token 20-30 pct PoPs in on
Wednesday, but have a hunch that the drier air may win out.

.AVIATION /00Z TAFS THROUGH 00Z SATURDAY/...
Issued at 612 PM CDT Fri May 2 2025
The upper low responsible for the variable VFR/MVFR/IFR
conditions will move slightly east in the next 24 hours. This
won`t change the pattern greatly, as we still should see periods
of VFR dry weather this evening, followed by another period of
mainly MVFR 1500-2500 ft stratus overnight into Saturday
morning, followed by late day lifting and clearing.
Unfortunately, this upper low will bring similar conditions to
this past 24 hours, through Sunday.
