Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Honolulu HI
337 AM HST Sat Jun 7 2025

.SYNOPSIS...
The high pressure ridge north of the Hawaiian Islands will
continue to produce light to moderate trade winds through Tuesday.
Easterly trade winds will increase into the moderate to breezy
range from Wednesday onward, as the ridge north of the islands
strengthens. A fairly stable pattern will keep fair weather
conditions in the forecast with only brief passing showers mainly
over windward and mountain areas, favoring the overnight to early
morning hours. Sea breezes will expand in coverage along terrain
sheltered western slopes of all islands.

&&

.DISCUSSION...
Fairly stable conditions remain in place over the Hawaiian Islands
this morning with stable low clouds drifting into the windward
mountain slopes of each island on the trade winds. In the upper
level water vapor satellite imagery we see a weak low drifting
slowly northward away from the state and the subtropical jet
stream just south of the islands outlining an upper level ridge.
This jet stream will bring high level cirrus clouds to the state
this weekend, likely enhancing sunrise and sunset colors.

A weak subtropical ridge north of the state will produce light to
moderate easterly trade winds through Tuesday. These lighter
large scale winds will allow sea breezes to expand in coverage
along the terrain sheltered western slopes of all islands each
day. Some clouds and perhaps a few stray showers may develop along
trade wind and sea breeze convergence zones in the afternoon
hours. The ridge will strengthen by the middle of next week with
trade winds increasing back into the moderate to breezy range from
Wednesday onward.

Fairly stable conditions aloft will keep shower activity to a
minimum across the Hawaiian Islands. Trade wind inversion heights
will remain in the 5,000 to 7,000 foot range, capping vertical
cloud development for much of the forecast period. This means only
brief passing showers are possible for most areas for the next
seven days.

&&

.AVIATION...
The high pressure ridge north of the Hawaiian Islands will
continue to produce light to moderate trade winds through Tuesday.
A hybrid sea breeze and trade wind pattern will develop over each
island, with daytime sea breezes developing along terrain
sheltered western slopes of each island. Brief passing showers are
possible over windward and mountain areas, favoring the overnight
to early morning hours. VFR conditions will prevail through the
weekend.

No AIRMETs are in effect.

&&

.MARINE...
High pressure far northeast will slowly weaken, maintaining
gentle to locally fresh trade winds through the rest of the
weekend. High pressure looks to rebuild north of the islands by
the middle of next week.

Surf along south facing shores is continuing to build in and will
peak later today. A High Surf Advisory is in effect for south
facing shores through 6 PM Sunday. Surf should begin declining
through early next week.

Surf along east facing shores will remain moderate as the
northeast swell slowly declines through the weekend.

Surf along north facing shores will remain small through the
forecast period, except for a few select areas that may be
exposed to the northeast swell today.

&&

.HFO WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
High Surf Advisory from 6 AM this morning to 6 PM HST Sunday for
south facing shores of all islands.
