Key messages:

 - Patchy dense fog early this morning.

 - A few thunderstorms possible across the N this afternoon.

 - Cooler temperatures.

Last night`s severe storms weakened after midnight, and the
remaining showers are presently draped across the extreme S portion
of the County Warning Area (CWA). The cold front which helped set off
these storms is presently situated across the S portion of the area,
with a band of cloudiness across much of central GA. Skies generally
cleared across the N. This, in concert with light winds and residual
low-level moisture from last nights rain, has set the stage for some
patchy low clouds and/or fog. Some of the fog has become dense. Have
issued an SPS highlighting the patchy fog, and will continue to
monitor coverage and density for a possible Dense Fog Advisory.

Low clouds and fog should thin and lift fairly quickly later this
morning as low-level NW winds increase and become gusty. Wind gusts
to 25 mph will be common by late morning into the afternoon.

An upper low in the base of a sharp trough will aid in isolated to
low end scattered shower development across N GA this afternoon, as
CAPE values of 100-200 J/kg will linger. A few thunderstorms are also
possible. Although there will be cold air aloft near this upper low,
model soundings do not indicate much CAPE within the hail growth
zone. Additional rainfall amounts should be generally light (less
than .15"). High temperatures today will range from the mid 50s in
the NE mountains to the mid 70s across the extreme SE.

Skies should further clear tonight, with low temperatures dropping
into the mid to upper 30s across N GA. Some frost development is
possible, particularly in the wind protected valleys of the extreme
NE. Due to uncertainty and the small areal coverage, will not issue a
Frost Advisory at this time. The day shift can re-evaluate based on
the latest model guidance.

A very nice day is shaping up for Saturday, with mostly sunny skies,
lighter winds, and high temperatures ranging from the mid 50s in the
NE mountains to the lower 70s across the SE zones. Minimum relative
humidity values may drop to the mid 20s across portions of the area
Saturday afternoon, and a Fire Danger Statement may be needed. /SEC

(Saturday night through Thursday)

Key messages:

 - Frost/Freeze concerns for Saturday Night/Sunday morning north of
   Interstate 85.

 - Dry and more seasonal temperatures are forecast for Saturday
   Night through Thursday. Rain likely to return by next weekend.

Surface high pressure and northwest flow aloft will be in place at
the start of the long term (Saturday Night) and will dominate the
weather pattern through the remainder of the weekend. The only thing
to note will be frost/freeze potential for areas along and north of
I-85 Saturday Night/Sunday morning. Mostly clear conditions and light
winds will lead to strong radiational cooling resulting in forecast
temperatures ranging in the low to mid 30s (32 to 37F). For the
northeast GA mountains there remains a 50% chance of temperatures
below 32F (Freeze Warning) and a 40-50% chance for frost formation
(Frost Advisory) for remaining areas along and north of I-85.

High pressure will slowly push to the south and east early next week
in response to a developing low pressure system across the Great
Lakes Region. A cold front will move through the Ohio/TN Valley
Regions Monday Night through early Tuesday. Latest ensembles still
indicate the best opportunity for rainfall (< 0.1") to be in North
GA, with increasing clouds and maybe a few sprinkles elsewhere. Best
forcing and dynamics remain to our north thus leading to nil thunder
chances. Temperatures cool ever so slightly following the FROPA, but
temperatures will gradually warm through the remainder of the week as
a result of high pressure and NW flow. The next opportunity for
rain, looks to occur between Thursday night and Friday of next week
as a midlevel disturbance moves through.
