...Morning Area Forecast Discussion...
.SHORT TERM...
(Today through Friday)
Issued at 440 AM EDT Thu Apr 17 2025
-Warm and dry conditions continue through Friday
-High fire danger conditions for portions of east-central Georgia
this afternoon due to low RH and dry vegetation
Another warm and dry day can be expected across North and Central GA
today with even warmer temperatures forecast for Friday. Upper
ridging slides overhead with high pressure nudging off the East
Coast today. Some passing high cirrus may be possible through the
day across North GA due to storm systems moving across the Plains
and parts of the Midwest. While winds remain relatively light and
turn more to the south/southeast today, still anticipating RH values
to dip below 25% at some locations this afternoon. A Fire Danger
Statement was issued for portions of east central GA due to low RH
values (20-23%) and dry fuels.
Daytime temperatures will climb into the upper 70s to low 80s this
afternoon. Though 60s to low 70s are forecast for northeast GA and
the higher elevations. With southerly winds returning, mild morning
lows are forecast for tonight with temperature sin the 50s. Even
warmer temperatures are forecast for Friday the ridge parks and
builds over the southeast. Temperatures are forecast to rise into
the 80s areawide with some locations in southeast-central GA
flirting with 90.

.LONG TERM...
(Friday night through Wednesday)
Issued at 440 AM EDT Thu Apr 17 2025
Key messages:
- Warming trend through the weekend.
- Rain early to mid next week.
Slow-moving upper pattern will prevail through early next week, with
a warming trend through the weekend as a ridge builds over the SE
United States. By the weekend, highs will range from the mid to
upper 70s in the NE mountains to near 90 across the S (8 to 14
degrees above normal). Low temperatures will climb from the 50s
Friday night (6 to 8 degrees above normal across central GA, 10 to
18 degrees above normal in the N) to near 60 by Saturday night and
Sunday night (10 to 15 degrees above normal).
Long range models bring an upper trough from the central Plains to
the Great Lakes region early next week. This will support a weak
cold front which will approach the area during the day Monday. This
front is forecast to stall across the area through the middle of
next week. Have carried scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms
Sunday night through Tuesday. Instability will increase ahead of the
front, and thunderstorm coverage will likely increase with later
forecast packages. After a break in shower activity by Tuesday
night, another weak front will drop S toward the area on Wednesday,
bring more scattered convection.
Temperatures will remain warmer than normal through the end of the
forecast period, although some slightly cooler air will sneak into
the N behind the first cold front.
