.KEY MESSAGES...
1. Drier weather with near seasonable temperatures will prevail
from Thanksgiving Day well into next week. Night and morning
fog will be possible each day in the San Joaquin Valley.
&&
.DISCUSSION...
Satellite loops show low cloud cover persisting along the south
and east sides of the SJ Valley and into the adjacent higher
terrain. Expect some clearing by later this afternoon; today`s
highs temperatures will reach near or slightly below average.
If these clouds end up persisting into tonight, it could make
forecasting the onset of valley fog a bit challenging. At this
time, the latest HREF shows dense fog (i.e., visibility 1/4 mile
or lower) with a 30 to 60 percent probability, mainly from
around 2 AM tonight until 11 AM Thursday over the San Joaquin
Valley. The favored areas will be along Highway 99 and east of
Interstate 5 from the south end of the valley up to Merced
County.
As for tomorrow night into Friday morning, Tule fog development
may become more widespread over the Central Valley, as upper-
level high pressure ridging will be in control by this point.
Also, we have plenty of low-level moisture available. Timing of
fog will also be challenging as usual for this time of year,
especially if we observe any development of a stratus deck.
However, we will keep forecast temperatures at around seasonal
values to slightly above average through the middle of next week
and dry conditions. No precipitation is anticipated for at least
the next seven days, and the Climate Prediction Center continues
to show increased odds of below average precipitation (about 50
to 60 percent chance) and above average temperatures (50-60
percent) for the next 6-10 days, as well as 8-14 days out (60-70
percent).
&&
.AVIATION...
18Z ISSUANCE Across the San Joaquin Valley, MVFR to Local IFR
conditions will be observed through 20Z today. Probability of
VFR conditions approach 70-90 percent between 20Z and 22Z today
and afterward across the Central California Interior. For
tonight into Thursday morning, probability of IFR and below
ranges from 30 to 60 percent across the San Joaquin Valley along
the Highway-99 corridor from Kern County to Merced County,
including 10Z-19Z Thursday.
&&
.AIR QUALITY ISSUES...
On Wednesday November 27 2024, Fireplace/Wood Stove Burning
Status is: Burning Discouraged in Fresno, Kern, Kings, Madera,
Merced, and Tulare Counties, and Kern (Greater Frazier Park
Area) and Sequoia National Park and Forest.
