.KEY MESSAGES...
1. Expect gradual warming today into next week; Moderate Heat
Risk lasts into the middle of next week.
2. There is a 15 to 25 percent chance for thunderstorms in the
Sierra Nevada this afternoon. Slight (10-20%) chances for
thunderstorms continue on Sunday and Monday.
&&
.DISCUSSION...
High pressure continues to prevail over our area with an upper-
level trough and associated low off the Central CA coast.
Expect slightly warmer temperatures today and a gradual warming
into early next week. High temperatures in the warmest
locations will reach the upper-90s today, and a few locations,
such as in the Indian Wells Valley in northeastern Kern County,
reach into the triple digits. Thunderstorms in the Sierra
Nevada have generally a 15-25% chance of development this
afternoon and will likely dissipate by the early evening. Slight
(10-20%) chances for afternoon thunderstorms continue on Sunday
into Monday. Otherwise, dry conditions prevail throughout our
portion of Central CA.
High temperatures will continue to warm Sunday through the
middle of the week. More locations can expect to reach triple
digits by at least Monday. Chances for triple digit heat from
Monday until Wednesday range from 30-70 percent in the SJ Valley
and also about 30-70 percent for highs to reach or top 105 in
the Kern County desert, with the best chances towards
Ridgecrest/Inyokern. Afternoon humidity will also remain quite
low in these hot spots and could lower a bit by the middle of
the week. A low to moderate risk for grass or brush fires
exists. Practice cold water safety if venturing into the lakes
and waterways, as water continues to flow cold and fast!
Milder temperatures are in store for later next week into the
following weekend. Highs may struggle to top 90 degrees in some
valley locations on Friday into next Saturday, as chances are at
50-90 percent for a high below 90 degrees. For now, the latest
CPC outlooks show mainly near average temperatures for both the
6-10 day and 8-14 day periods. Highs in the lower 90s are
average for this time of year, including by mid June.
