.KEY MESSAGES...
* Mild weather continues through Friday with high temperatures
running 5-10 degrees above season averages.
* Mostly clear conditions with a few lingering showers and
isolated thunderstorms possible in Mono County today.
* A spring low pressure system will provide cooler temperatures,
breezy winds, and rain/mountain snow showers this weekend.

.DISCUSSION...
Drier mid-level air continues to spread across northern California
and northern Nevada, resulting in mostly clear skies today, except
for a few afternoon clouds south of US-50. In Mono County, enough
lingering moisture may remain to support a few afternoon rain
showers, with around a 15% chance of an isolated thunderstorm,
mainly along the Sierra crest south of Bridgeport.
Temperatures will remain seasonably mild, with highs running 5-10
degrees above average. Expect afternoon highs in western Nevada to
reach the mid-70s today, warming to the upper 70s to near 80 by
Friday. Meanwhile, Sierra valleys will see low 60s today, warming to
the mid to upper 60s by Friday.
Conditions will deteriorate over the weekend as another spring
low pressure system moves across the Sierra and western Nevada.
By Friday afternoon, the chance of showers and thunderstorms will
increase to 20-40% along the Sierra, with around a 15-25% chance
that isolated storms could reach the US 395/I-580 corridor. However,
Saturday will be the day with the most widespread rain and snow
chances across the region.
Snow levels have trended higher for the weekend, starting around
10,000 feet on Friday before dropping to near 7,000 feet late
Saturday into Sunday morning. Any accumulating snow will mainly be
limited to the highest Sierra passes, such as Mt. Rose Summit in
the Tahoe Basin, where a slushy inch or two is possible. Farther
south in Mono County, areas between 8,000 and 9,000 feet could pick
up 2-4 inches of snow, with the highest peaks above 9,000 feet
seeing a 30% chance of over 8 inches.
Western Nevada is expected to see rain showers this weekend, with
total accumulations ranging from 0.10 to 0.25 inches. Portions of
the Western Nevada Basin and Range could receive higher amounts,
between 0.50 and 1.00 inch, due to a wrap-around rainband on the
backside of the low on Sunday. Overall, cooler conditions will
prevail through the weekend, with highs in the low 60s for western
Nevada and the low 50s across the Sierra. Fuentes

.AVIATION...
VFR conditions are expected today with light NE-E winds prevailing
through the afternoon. KMMH could see a 10-15% chance of an isolated
shower or thunderstorm between 21-03z today.
An approaching low pressure system is expected to provide
unsettled weather over the weekend with cooler temperatures,
breezy winds, and rain/mountain snow showers. Fuentes
