Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard CA
533 AM PST Wed Nov 27 2024
.SYNOPSIS...27/158 AM.
Lingering light rain south of Point Conception will drop off
early this morning. Then dry weather is expected through early
next week, with light to moderate Santa Ana breezes at times.
Temperatures will trend upwards for the next several days,
reaching warmer than normal for this weekend.
&&
.SHORT TERM (TDY-FRI)...27/322 AM.
Lingering sprinkles south of Point Conception will drop off early
this morning. Moisture brought about by the past precipitation
event will make patchy fog possible this morning across coasts
and valleys, especially for Ventura County northward.
Today will offer several degrees of warming and a good chance for
sunshine by the afternoon. Temperatures will generally be in the
60s up to low 70s. Offshore northeasterly gusts of 15 to 25 mph
will occur for San Luis Obispo and interior Los Angeles County
mountains through this morning.
Starting late tonight, the LAX-DAG gradient will increase to
around 4 mb offshore. This will drive an increase in offshore
winds and low-to-moderate Santa Ana winds are expected for
Thanksgiving Day and Friday. Winds will be the strongest across
the usual Santa Ana Wind- prone cooridor of LA and Ventura
Counties, with some lighter offshore winds across SLO County in
the mornings. Peak wind gusts for LA/VTA Counties will be around
20 to 30 mph for the coasts and valleys, and 35 to 45 mph for the
Santa Susana and western San Gabriel mountains and surrounding
foothills.
The offshore flow will lead to sunny skies for Thanksgiving Day
and Friday, as well as upward trending temperatures and lowering
humidities. Highs will largely be in the upper 60s to low 70s for
SLO and Santa Barbara Counties, and in the 70s for LA and Ventura
Counties.
.LONG TERM (SAT-TUE)...27/252 AM.
High confidence in the long term forecast, with an extended
period of dry conditions expected through mid-next week. Broad and
weak ridging over the area is likely to yield mild conditions.
Saturday, the primary weather feature of note is likely to be
moderate offshore Santa Ana Winds across the usual wind- prone
cooridor and the mountains of Ventura and Los Angeles Counties.
Some breezy winds may occur across San Luis Obispo County as well,
peaking in the early morning hours. The offshore flow will
continue dry humidites and clear skies for Saturday. Starting
Saturday night, the potential for significant offshore flow
decreases, and marine layer cloud are likely to return to the area
during the overnight and morning hours. Little day-to- day
changes are favored Sunday into mid next week.
&&
.AVIATION...27/1332Z.
At 12Z at KLAX, there was no marine layer nor inversion.
Low to moderate confidence in TAFs. There were various cloud
layers across the region, and cigs/vsbys will change frequently
this morning. Overall, there will be widespread IFR to LIFR conds
in coastal, valley and lower mountain areas this morning. Clearing
will likely be slow, and clouds could linger at day, especially
south of Pt Conception. However, cigs should at least rise into
the MVFR category in most coastal and valley areas this afternoon.
Expect widespread low clouds in coastal and many valley areas
tonight, with IFR to LIFR cigs.
KLAX...Low confidence in TAF. There will likely be frequent
changes in cigs and vsbys this morning. However, it is most
likely that LIFR to VLIFR conds will persist thru at least mid
or late morning. There is a 20-30% chance that cigs will scatter
out between 21Z and 03Z.
KBUR...Low to moderate confidence in TAF. There will likely be
frequent changes in cigs and vsbys this morning. However, it is
most likely that LIFR to VLIFR conds will persist thru at least
mid or late morning. There is a 30% chance that cigs will scatter
out between 20Z and 03Z. There is a 20% chance of IFR to VLIFR
cigs again tonight after 09Z.
&&
.MARINE...27/516 AM.
For the outer waters, there is high confidence in forecast.
Small Craft Advisory (SCA) conds are not expected thru Sun night.
For the inner waters, moderate to high confidence in winds and
seas remaining below SCA levels thru Sun night. There is a 20-30%
chance of SCA level NE wind gusts nearshore across the inner
waters off the Central Coast and from Ventura to Malibu late
tonight and Thu morning, with less of a chance Fri morning.
