Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Medford OR
825 AM PDT Sat Jun 21 2025

.DISCUSSION...Radar image is showing isolated showers mainly
centered along and west of the Cascades. Showers should remain
isolated for most of the morning then will increase in the
afternoon with showers mostly concentrated north of the Umpqua
Divide and along the Cascades. Also looked at several instability
parameters and the data suggest it will not be unstable enough for
storms this afternoon and evening and they have been removed from
the forecast. The main resson for the lack of storms is ample
cloud cover which will keep temperatures from reaching convective
values due to limited daytime heating. Also, precipitation
amounts were adjusted lower for this morning due to the isolated
nature of the showers.

Showers will gradually diminish tonight, but cloud cover will
remain plentyful therefore temperatures will be slow to fall at
night. A few locations east of the Cascades could get close to
freezing towards daybreak Sunday if there`s enough clearing, but
clearing tonight may be brief and not lasting for a significant
amount of time. -Petrucelli

.AVIATION...21/12Z TAFs...Showers will increase today and persist
through tonight, with most widespread activity from the Southern
Oregon Cascades westward. MVFR conditions will become widespread in
showers along the coast, in the Umpqua basin and over the Southern
Oregon Cascades this morning through early this evening with a mix
of VFR and areas of MVFR elsewhere across southwest Oregon and
mainly VFR in Northern California. There is a slight chance for
thunderstorms (10-15%) from the Southern Oregon Cascades west and in
Lake County today. Late this evening and tonight, MVFR ceilings
will continue along the coast, across the Umpqua basin and Southern
Oregon Cascades, as well as spread across Klamath and Lake
counties.

.MARINE...Updated 200 AM Saturday, June 21, 2025...Moderate west
