Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Las Vegas NV
959 PM PDT Wed May 7 2025
.SYNOPSIS...High pressure will begin to dominate the weather pattern
into the weekend, providing dry conditions, and notably warmer
temperatures. Then next weather system will approach by Sunday
with the main impacts being an increase in winds.
&&
.UPDATE...Radar returns had essentially vanished and clouds were
decreasing as well. These trends are in line with forecast
expectations, so no update planned this evening.
&&
.SHORT TERM...through Saturday.
The upper low continues to drop to the south and into southwest
Arizona this afternoon. The low will move east of Arizona
overnight. The only lingering impacts will be a few isolated
showers and maybe a few lightning strikes in eastern Mohave County
this afternoon and early evening, especially in the northeast
corner of the county. Otherwise high pressure will begin to build
into the area providing dry conditions and a significant amount of
warming. The biggest jump in temperatures will be on Thursday
with most locations seeing 6-12 degrees of warming from today`s
levels. This will be followed by another 4-6 degree increase on
Friday placing the entire area back to above normal levels.
Saturday will be the warmest day of the period for most locations.
HeatRisk values will reach the Moderate category at most of the
lower elevations on Saturday and portions of the Death Valley may
reach into the Major category for one day. At this point will hold
off on any heat products given the short duration and limited
coverage.
.LONG TERM...Sunday through Wednesday.
By Sunday, temperatures will remain quite warm, but a fairly deep
trough will begin to creep towards the PacNW coast and begin
nudging our high pressure ridge east. This will induce a cooling
trend by Monday with temperatures gradually trending back below
their seasonal normals by Tuesday. Meanwhile, breezy conditions
will return as well as the trough pushes into the Great Basin.
There remains a fair amount of uncertainty regarding the timing
and depth of the trough, so forecast details may change further
next week but at the very least a cooling trend and return of
gusty winds look likely. There is quiet a bit of difference with
the ensembles with regard to how far south or if any of the
forecast area will see any precipitation with this trough. At this
point the forecast is dry for all but the northern fringes from
the eastern Sierra into northern Lincoln County on Tuesday and
Wednesday.
&&
.AVIATION...For Harry Reid...For the 06Z Forecast Package...
As high pressure builds into the area, dry conditions are
expected with light winds. Winds to largely remain diurnal in
direction, shifting from north/northeast through morning to
southwest in the evening. Wind speeds generally look to remain 10
knots or less, variable during the overnight/early morning hours.
For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast
California...For the 06Z Forecast Package...A diurnal wind pattern
is anticipated over the next few days as high pressure dominates
the region. Winds will generally remain less than 10 knots,
becoming variable at many terminals during the overnight hours.
The one exception will be KBIH, which may see slightly stronger
southeast winds in the afternoon/early evening. Otherwise dry
conditions and a few passing high clouds can be expected.
&&
.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...Spotters are encouraged to report
any significant weather or impacts according to standard operating
procedures.
