Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Las Vegas NV
248 PM PDT Fri Jun 20 2025
.KEY MESSAGES...
* Critical fire weather conditions will continue through Saturday
across southern Nevada and northwest Arizona due to low
humidity and gusty winds.
* Gusty winds will continue across the area, spreading into
northwest Arizona on Saturday.
* Temperatures will decrease as we head into the weekend, dropping
below normal on Saturday and remaining cooler than normal
through early next week.
&&
.DISCUSSION...through next Friday.
An area of low pressure system will continue to push inland and
dig south over the weekend, resulting in gusty south to southwest
winds across the region. These winds, combined with low humidity
and critical fuels will result in increased fire danger today and
tomorrow for portions of southern Nevada and northwest Arizona.
Multiple Red Flag Warnings are currently in effect. More details
regarding the Red Flag Warnings can be found in the FIRE WEATHER
discussion below.
A Wind Advisory remains in effect for the western Mojave Desert
this afternoon and will run through Saturday night. Another Wind
Advisory will go into effect for Mohave County on Saturday
morning, running through late Saturday night. Additionally, 20 to
25 mph sustained southwesterly winds with gusts up to 40 mph will
result in 1 to 3 foot waves on Lake Mead, Lake Mohave, and Lake
Havasu on Saturday. As such, a Lake Wind Advisory has been issued
for the Colorado River Valley for Saturday.
As the aforementioned area of low pressure moves further inland,
we will see temperatures decrease with cooler than normal
temperatures on tap for the region over the weekend. These cooler
than normal temperatures will persist into early next week as the
trough remains positioned over the Desert Southwest. Temperatures
will be near normal by Wednesday with continued warming through
the end of the week.

.AVIATION...For Harry Reid...For the 00Z Forecast Package...South to
southwest winds are expected through Saturday, with gusts of 27 to
32 knots expected this afternoon and again Saturday afternoon. Winds
will decrease slightly overnight, although occasional gusts to 25
knots. No weather or significant cloud cover is forecast.
Temperatures will remain above 100F through 02Z, with a maximum of
103F expected around 00Z.
For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast
California...For the 00Z Forecast Package...Conditions at the Las
Vegas area terminals will be similar to those described above for
Harry Reid. Gusty southwest to west winds near KBIH before turning
back to the north around sunset. Winds will increase out of the
northwest behind a cold front mid to late afternoon on Saturday.
Across the western Mojave Desert, strong west winds will continue
through the period with gusts as high as 40 knots possible at KDAG.
Winds will be a bit lighter in the Colorado River Valley, although
gusts of 25-35 knots will be possible at both KEED and KIFP. No
weather or significant cloud cover is forecast through Saturday.
Lighter winds expected on Sunday.
&&
.FIRE WEATHER...A Red Flag Warning remains in effect for Nevada
Fire Weather Zones 462, 463, and 464 through 11:00 pm PDT
tonight. An additional Red Flag Warning remains in effect through
11:00 pm PDT/MST Saturday night for Nevada Fire Weather Zones 461,
465 and 466, as well as Arizona Fire Weather Zones 101 and 102.
The warning was extended through Saturday for Zone 461. South to
southwest winds sustained at 20 to 25 mph are expected across
southern Nevada and northwest Arizona today. These winds will be
accompanied by wind gusts of 40 to 45 mph. Afternoon relative
humidities will bottom out in the single digits with overnight
recoveries in the 15 to 25% range. Low humidity will persist into
Saturday, with strong winds persisting across far southern Nevada
and Mohave County. As a result of the low humidity and strong
winds, there is an increased risk of wildfire starts and
spreading. Outdoor burning and recreation involving sparks or
flames is not recommended. Winds across the region will decrease
on Sunday, which will mitigate wildfire risk.
&&
.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...Spotters are encouraged to report
any significant weather or impacts according to standard operating
procedures.
