.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 220 PM CDT Thu May 8 2025
Afternoon radar/satellite imagery clearly shows a broad
circulation in place surrounding an H500 cyclone in position just
to the northeast of Arkansas. This has provided isolated to
scattered showers and storms across much of the Ohio Valley
southwestward across northern portions of the state. Much of this
activity is expected to decrease after sunset this evening.
H500 ridging is expected to build in the coming days from the SW
US toward the Upper Mississippi Valley. This ridge will struggle
to advance much farther SE toward Arkansas thanks to a trailing
cutoff H500 low expected to meander about the Lower Mississippi
Valley through this weekend.
Precip associated with this feature will remain largely S/SE of
the state through Saturday with the exception of a few, isolated
showers across southern AR. By Sunday and into early next week
this feature is expected to strengthen a bit and drift
northeast, toward the Tennessee Valley. Precip chances will
increase across at least the southeast half of the state during
this timeframe.
From this weekend through early next week, the presence of the
cutoff low will highly influence temperatures across the state.
For much of Arkansas this will provide near to below normal
readings during this timeframe.
By the middle of the week, as the cutoff low is expected to move
well east of the area, mid-level ridging should began to expand
across the Central/Southern Plains and toward the state. This will
provide a significant increase in temperatures across the area.
