.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 238 AM CDT Thu Apr 17 2025

To begin the period, calm and dry conditions are expected through
Thursday night as surface high pressure sets up over the state
controlling the weather pattern in the short-term. A pattern change
is expected by Friday as an upper level trough dives down from the
Rockies. This will bring a cold front into the state, likely
stalling over NW Arkansas. This stalled front will bring unsettled
weather through Tuesday.

As the front approached the state Friday, some severe weather will
be possible across NW AR Friday afternoon and evening before
transitioning to the rest of the state Saturday and Sunday. While it
is too far out to know exact timing and impacts, the Natural State
needs to remain weather aware late this week and into the weekend as
multiple rounds of severe weather could be possible.

Heavy rain will also become a great concern through early next week
as rounds of rain will ride along the front. Current model guidance
suggests the most QPF will be across NW AR into SW MO, though shifts
to the east and west are always possible. Regardless, portions of
the state are likely to see more rainfall up to two to four inches
possible. Given already saturated grounds due to recent heavy
rainfall, flash flooding could become possible. Also, rivers across
the state continue to drop...but given forecast rainfall amounts
Friday and into the weekend, expect area rivers to begin to rise
again.

Temperatures are expected to average to slightly above average
through the period. High temperatures are expected to be in the
lower 70s to mid 80s. Low temperatures are expected to drop into the
lower 50s to upper 60s.
