Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Sacramento CA
152 AM PST Thu Jan 16 2025
.SYNOPSIS...
Dry weather with seasonable high temperatures continue through
next week. Cold overnight/morning temperatures with areas of
frost in the Valley continue as well. Localized areas of morning
fog may develop. Next week, periods of breezy north to east winds
on Sunday and Monday.
&&
.DISCUSSION...
Clear skies and cold temperatures once again prevail across
interior NorCal this morning. Upper level ridging in the Eastern
Pacific remains the dominate synoptic feature continuing our
streak of dry weather. The Rex Block pattern, where a high
pressure is north of a low pressure, will break tomorrow as a
closed low moves inland across SoCal. However, the upper level
ridge will remain firmly in control of interior NorCal`s synoptic
pattern in the short term forecast period.
No significant changes to the current sensible weather is expected
while off-shore ridging remains in place. As we move into the
weekend, the aforementioned closed low will move further inland
and phase with a trough axis extending from the Northern Plains.
This will help usher cooler air to the air, as high temperatures
are forecast to fall slightly across the area beginning Saturday.
Temperatures will still seasonable, with highs in the upper 50s to
low 60s across the Valley. Cold overnight/morning lows will
continue as well, with probabilities of reaching 32F or lower on
Sunday morning around 20-50%. Breezy northerly winds also return
to the area, with current wind gusts forecast to be 15-25 mph in
the western Sacramento Valley and Delta, with easterly gusts of
around 30-40 mph in the foothills and mountains.
&&
.EXTENDED DISCUSSION (Monday THROUGH Thursday)...
High amplitude EPAC upper ridging remains dominant synoptic
feature influencing interior NorCal through the extended period.
Dry weather continues with models trending lighter on winds early
next week. High temperatures forecast to be near seasonal normal.
&&

again aft 07z Fri, otherwise VFR conditions over interior NorCal
next 24 hrs with sfc wind generally below 12 kts.
