AVWMFR The Mount Shasta Avalanche Center has issued a BACKCOUNTRY AVALANCHE WARNING for the following areas: NWS Medford OR - CAZ082 (South Central Siskiyou County). * WHAT...An exceptionally powerful atmospheric river will impact the Mount Shasta region. Prolonged periods of heavy snowfall, along with rain-on-snow will create high avalanche danger. * WHERE...Avalanche terrain of Mount Shasta, Castle Lake, the Eddy Mountains, and Ash Creek Butte area east of Mount Shasta. * WHEN...In effect from Tue 12:00 PST to Thu 12:00 PST. * IMPACTS...Intense rainfall and multiple feet of new snow will produce large and destructive avalanches. These avalanches may run long distances into flat terrain, valley floors, and mature forests. In addition, debris flows are possible out of Mount Shasta drainages such as Cascade Gulch, Ash Creek, and Mud Creek. * PRECAUTIONARY / PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...Very dangerous avalanche conditions. Travel in, near, or below avalanche terrain is not recommended. Recreational users without backcountry avalanche skills are advised to stay out of the backcountry. Deep snow conditions exist. * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall and snowmelt is expected. * WHERE...A portion of northern California, including the following county, Siskiyou, including the cities of Mount Shasta City, Weed, Callahan and Tennant. * WHEN...Until midnight PST Friday Night. * IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 1042 PM PST, Satellite estimates and rain gauge data indicate heavy rain and snowmelt in the warned area. Flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. Between 2 and 6 inches of rain have fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts of 3 to 7 inches are possible in the warned area. Many areas that received heavy snowfall earlier have switched over to rain. Rain can melt the snow and cause a higher runoff response than rainfall alone. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Mount Shasta, Weed, Dunsmuir, Pilgrim Creek Snow Park, Trout Creek Campground, Cattle Camp Campground, Fowlers Camp Campground And McCloud Falls, McCloud, Tennant, Mount Shasta Summit Plateau, Mount Shasta Ski Park Highway, Mount Shasta Bunny Flat Trail, Mcbride Springs Campground, Pondosa, Four Corners Snow Park, I 5 Black Butte Summit, Carrick, Edgewood, Medicine Lake Campground and Callahan. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood Information: Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Gusty winds persist overnight, but could ease for a time into Thursday afternoon. Strong winds are likely to redevelop Thursday evening with gusts to 60 mph into Friday morning. Information: Remain in the lower levels of your home during the windstorm, and avoid windows. The hazardous conditions could impact the Thursday morning commute. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Snow levels will gradually rise to around 6000 feet early Thursday morning with snow changing to rain.
