.DISCUSSION...

KEY MESSAGES:
- Rain, that may fall heavy at times near the ND border, is
  expected to continue tonight.

- Next large rain system looks to arrive Sunday afternoon through
  Monday morning, but may only affect areas south of the Missouri
  River.

WEATHER PATTERN OVERVIEW:
Strong northern plains cyclone is expected to occlude out tonight.
That means that it will begin weakening and then will push off to
the east starting Friday. But rain and strong winds over the
eastern zones will continue into the overnight hours. Many places
in this area could end up with an inch or more of rainfall by
Friday morning, certainly welcomed for many as this Spring has
been a dry one for most.

Strong surface pressure gradient with this system will keep NW
winds going into the night as well and not really diminishing
until Friday evening. A Lake Wind Advisory is in effect will be
extended into tomorrow afternoon.

The next couple systems look to bring chances of some rain, but
again, it looks like the heaviest rainfall will miss the area. The
most significant one arrives Sunday but the heaviest rain looks to
pass to our south and bring more rainfall to southern Montana.

A weaker system or system looks to pass by mid to late next week
but again, a drought-busting rain is not expected.

FORECAST CONFIDENCE & DEVIATIONS:

I did blend NBM90 for winds tonight and Friday.

There was an earlier concern about Friday Night temperatures, as
they drop into the 30s for some areas, but it looks now the threat
will be over the SE zones where skies clear and there are light
winds. Temps were blended with NBM25 and resulted in low to mid
30s for lows.

UPDATED: 2000z

FLIGHT CAT RANGE: Mostly MVFR but IFR at KSDY and KGDV tonight.

Strong storm system over the eastern Dakotas will keep strong NW
winds in place tonight along with steady rain east of a KGGW-KMLS
line. Low ceilings will be confined to higher elevation airports.

Conditions are expected to improve Friday as the storm system
moves away. TFJ
